Dr. Ruth L. Gottesman

Dr. Ruth L. Gottesman is Professor Emerita of the Department of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she presently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees, and previously served as Board Chair from 2007-2014.  She also serves as Co-Chair of The Gottesman Fund. Ruth joined Einstein’s Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC) in 1968 where she developed a program to evaluate and treat children with learning disabilities, a condition that, at that time, was frequently unrecognized or misdiagnosed. In addition to her clinical work, Ruth specialized in training physicians and other health and educational professionals, school volunteers, and parents to identify and help children with learning problems. In 1992, Ruth started the Adult Literacy Program at CERC, one of the first programs that focused on adults with difficulties in learning in the greater New York area. She served on the Board of Trustees of Teachers College from 1989-2020. Ruth is married to David S. Gottesman and they have three children and six grandchildren.
